Abstract
Darcus Howe’s many obituaries offer polarising views on his character. Some celebrate his accomplishments as a combative campaigner for civil rights in Britain. In this paper, we examine Howe’s temperament, his politics and the skewed conspiracy theories of his obsession with racism. How are we to conceptualise him now he is gone, Howe the hero’ or ‘Howe the bruiser’.
